Week 5: Learning

The class worked hard last week on trying to use their manners throughout the day within the classroom, outside and I am hoping at home. I hope you have noticed. Also last week we talked about what is a community and who is in our school community. This week we will continue inquiring around this, but get the students to start thinking about what they would like to find out about the school and discuss how we could find that out.

Literacy:
Reading and writing are now fully up and running. The students are all settling into the routine and expectations in these areas within the class. This week we are working on activities that relate to the beginning sounds in words.  Further that we are focusing in reading on 1 to 1 pointing, word identity, using pictures to help decode an unknown word. Please keep these in mind when you are reading with your child at home.

Also, as a warm up in the class, we will be practices counting forwards and backwards from 20 before we hit into our rotation where we are working on number identity, ordering, and grouping to their ability in their maths group.

Week 4: Fun within the Week

This week has been great seeing lots of the children bring in their Bikes and Scooters to enjoy and explore the bike track. They have all had a ball on it and learning the safety around using it. We have been talking about using the Bike Track like a road when you are on it and when you are wanting to cross it at morning tea time and lunchtime.

On Tuesday we had a few students who brought their togs along to join in on the fun at lunchtime. They had a huge amount of fun on the water slide and were lucky that Kevin Cornin also opened the pool for them.

Don't forget to bring your togs again on Tuesday

    Week 4: Learning

This week in class we are going to be inquiring about respect and manners towards others. We will be unpacking how it makes them and others feel in different situations. You may find your child will be talking about this at home during the week. This relates back to the book that we read last week 'Have you filled a Bucket'.

    Spelling:
Spelling Words will begin coming home from this week, but there is no push on them having to do this. These words are recorded in the back of your child’s communication book, which will be found in their book bags. Please keep these books in their book bags, as we will also be working with these words in class. These words are personalized to your child’s ability.
Also in their communication books, there will be different ideas of how you could learn these words and how you can have fun with them.

    Sight Words:
The words on the ring that your child started taking home last week are sight words.  These words relate to the level that your child is reading at. These words are for the children to work on reading and identifying.

    Maths:
In maths this week we will be looking into statistics and what it means. As a class, we will look at each other's eyes and put our data into a graph. We will be talking about which colour has more, less, same, difference and getting to know the understanding of these words. Also in our groups, we will continue working on number identity and ordering at their ability.

    Writing:
In writing, we are injuring about what is a good writer. We have already been talking about this last week, but we will be putting it into context and using what we found out in our writing.
We will also be working on our letters and their sounds.

    Dance and Drama:

As a school, we are learning this song 'You're Welcome' from the movie Moana and we are also learning a dance. It is a way we are including Dance and Music into our classes. Here are the song and dance if your child wants to practice at home. Have Fun

    Week 3: Learning

This week we will continue on learning about each other and building relationships and friendships with our peers. We are going to be reading the Book 'Have you filled a Bucket'. This book talks about how everyone has an invisible bucket and by doing kind and helpful things to a person it will fill their bucket. This will also help fill their bucket and make them feel good. Guided Reading: From this week we will be starting to bring home books that we have read and been working on in class. Please be a little patient as we are working on the reading this week. There could be a little movement over the summer holidays (forward and backwards), so we will make changes to find the best fit level for your child. Reading books will come home Monday to Thursday and on a Friday a Poem or Sharing a Piece of work will come home. Maths: In maths this week the groups will be working on getting to know and understand new games in their maths groups. We are also going to be working on number knowledge to do with the child's level and ability.
